Which is better for a beginner DJ?

The Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX. It includes Serato DJ Lite, two decks, a crossfader and pads, so you can mix digital tracks immediately. The AT-LP120XUSB is a single turntable with no mixer or DJ software.

Can the AT-LP120XUSB be used to DJ?

Only as one source. It plays one record at a time and has no crossfader or second deck, so you would need a second turntable and a mixer. The Numark gives you two decks in one unit.

The AT-LP120XUSB has fewer moving electronic parts and a direct-drive motor built for long play, so it tends to age well. The Numark's faders and pads wear with heavy use, though they are replaceable on many controllers.

Is the Numark worth it over the Audio-Technica?

They do different jobs, so price is not the deciding factor. At $271.15 at Acclaim Sound and Lighting versus $399.00 at Amazon as of November 3, 2026, the Numark is cheaper and better for mixing. The Audio-Technica is the pick for vinyl playback and recording.

Can I record vinyl with the Numark?

No. The Mixtrack Platinum FX has no turntable input or recording path for vinyl. The AT-LP120XUSB has USB output for recording records to a computer.

Do I need extra gear for either one?

The Numark needs a laptop with Serato DJ Lite and speakers or headphones. The AT-LP120XUSB needs speakers and, for recording, a computer; its built-in preamp lets you use line-level inputs.
