Which is better for improving spiking?

The Tandem Sport Spike Challenger. Its prepositioned ball on a cord gives repeatable spike and arm-swing reps that a plain net cannot. The Apex net is better for serving and general play.

Is the Challenger worth the extra money?

Only if spiking reps are your main goal. At $639.99 at Academy Sports + Outdoors versus $119.95 at Apex Sports, you pay about $520 more for a single-purpose trainer.

Which is easier to set up and move?

The Challenger rolls on two wheels and needs no staking, but it is a heavy metal frame. The Apex net packs into a carry bag but needs four stakes on grass.

The Challenger's metal frame is built for repeated hitting. The Apex net backs its fiberglass frame with a lifetime warranty, but fiberglass poles are lighter duty.

Can I use either indoors?

The Challenger works indoors as a freestanding weighted unit. The Apex net is designed around ground stakes, so indoor use is less secure.

Which suits a beginner?

The Apex net. Its three heights and low price fit beginners and youth players. The Challenger is aimed at hitters already working on contact and swing.
