Is the Astercook 15-piece knife set worth it?

For a starter kitchen or a second set, yes. At $35.99 at eBay as of November 3, 2026, you get the main kitchen knives, steak knives, shears and a block with a sharpener for less than most single chef's knives.

How does it compare with a forged German knife set?

It uses German-style high-carbon stainless steel, but the blades are partial tang with polypropylene handles rather than full-tang forged construction. Expect a lighter feel and faster dulling than a $200-plus forged set.

Are the knives dishwasher safe?

The set is listed as dishwasher safe, but hand washing preserves the anti-rust coating and edges longer. Repeated dishwasher cycles are the most common cause of coating wear.

Six kitchen knives (8-inch chef, 8-inch slicing, 8-inch bread, 7-inch santoku, 5-inch utility, 3.5-inch paring), six serrated steak knives, kitchen shears and a hardwood block with a built-in sharpener.

When is the price lowest?

The lowest recent daily price was $35.89 on October 30, 2026, and the high was $39.99 on November 1, 2026. The current $35.99 is close to the floor, so waiting is unlikely to save much.

Do the steak knives have serrated edges?

Yes, all six steak knives are serrated. That suits cutting cooked meat at the table but is not ideal for clean, thin slices.
