Our take on the Carbo X

The Carbo X is a carbon-fiber fat-tire e-bike built around a 48V Bafang rear hub motor and a 48V 13Ah battery. The T700 carbon frame keeps weight down for a fat bike, and the 26 x 4.0 Kenda tires, 100mm front fork and dual ZOOM disc brakes suit rough pavement, gravel and light trail riding. A color LCD and 8-speed Shimano Altus drivetrain round out the package. It is a niche build: light frame, heavy tires, hub drive.

Best forRiders who want a light fat-tire e-bike for mixed terrainCommuters on rough roads and gravel paths
Riders who prefer a simple hub motor over a mid-drive
Buyers wanting a carbon frame without a premium-brand price
Pros
  • Carbon T700 frame is light for a fat bike
  • 26 x 4.0 Kenda tires float over sand, snow and gravel
  • 100mm front fork travel softens rough surfaces
  • 8-speed Shimano Altus gearing gives usable range
  • Color LCD shows speed, battery and assist level clearly
  • 264 lb load capacity covers most riders plus cargo
Cons
  • Rear hub motor handles climbs worse than a mid-drive
  • 13Ah battery is modest for a fat bike; expect limited range in cold or hilly use
  • 2A charger means slow recharge times
  • ZOOM HB875 disc brakes are budget-tier, not premium hydraulics
  • Fat tires add rolling resistance and cost more to replace

Questions and answers

Is the Carbo X worth it over a cheaper aluminum fat e-bike?
The main premium is the carbon frame, which cuts weight noticeably versus aluminum fat e-bikes. If you rarely lift or carry the bike, an aluminum model with the same motor and battery will feel similar to ride for less.
How far can it go on a charge?
The 48V 13Ah battery is about 624Wh. Real range depends on assist level, rider weight and terrain; expect roughly 20 to 40 miles, less on hills or in cold weather.
Can it climb steep hills?
A rear hub motor pushes from the wheel rather than through the gears, so steep or long climbs are its weak spot. The 8-speed Shimano Altus gearing helps, but a mid-drive bike climbs better.
What comes in the box?
The bike ships with the 2A smart charger and the color LCD display installed. Check the listing for included pedals, tools and assembly requirements before ordering.
Are the brakes good enough?
The ZOOM HB875 disc brakes are mechanical and adequate for most riding, but they lack the modulation and power of hydraulic brakes on heavier or faster descents.
When is it cheapest?
E-bike prices tend to drop around major sales events and at end of season. Watch the price history on this page to see whether the current price is near its low.
