Our take on the DeWalt ATOMIC 20V MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless 2-Tool Combo Kit and 12 in. Cordless Chainsaw

This is a DeWalt 20V MAX combo pairing the ATOMIC compact drill/driver and impact driver with a 12 in. cordless chainsaw. All three tools run on the same 20V MAX lithium-ion batteries, and the drill and impact driver use brushless motors for longer runtime. The kit ships with multiple batteries, so you can keep one charging while the others work. It suits someone building a first cordless set who also needs light limbing and trimming around the yard.

Pros
  • Three tools on one 20V MAX battery platform
  • Brushless motors on the drill and impact driver
  • ATOMIC tools are compact and fit tight spots
  • Multiple batteries included, so work continues while one charges
  • 12 in. bar handles branches and small logs without a cord
Cons
  • 12 in. chainsaw is for light trimming, not felling or firewood volume
  • Chainsaw drains 20V packs quickly under continuous cutting
  • Combo kits often bundle smaller-capacity batteries than bare-tool buyers want
  • Chainsaw needs bar oil and chain tension checks before each use
  • No rapid charger upgrade unless the kit specifies one

What reviewers say

Owners of DeWalt 20V MAX ATOMIC tools generally rate the drill and impact driver highly for size and power. Reception of the 12 in. cordless chainsaw is more mixed: fine for pruning and small limbs, limited for sustained cutting.

Pros
  • Compact ATOMIC bodies fit between studs and in cabinets
  • Impact driver has enough torque for long deck screws
  • Shared batteries across drill, driver and saw
  • Chainsaw is quiet and quick for small yard cleanup
Cons
  • Chainsaw bogs down in green or thick wood
  • Battery life on the saw is short under load
  • Combo batteries are smaller than expected
  • Chain needs frequent retensioning

Questions and answers

Is this kit worth it over buying the tools separately?
Usually yes if you need all three tools and the included batteries. Buying a drill, impact driver and chainsaw separately plus batteries and a charger costs more than a bundled kit.
How does the ATOMIC drill compare with DeWalt's XR drill?
ATOMIC tools are shorter and lighter, which helps in tight spaces. XR drills generally offer more torque and larger batteries, so choose XR for heavy drilling and ATOMIC for compact everyday work.
How long does the chainsaw run on one battery?
Expect a handful of cuts per charge on small branches, less in green or thick wood. Keep the spare batteries charged and swap them as the saw slows.
What size bar and chain does the 12 in. chainsaw use?
It takes a 12 in. bar and the matching 3/8 in. low-profile chain. Check the manual for the exact replacement chain part number before buying spares.
What comes in the box?
The kit includes the ATOMIC drill/driver, impact driver and 12 in. chainsaw, plus multiple 20V MAX batteries, a charger and contractor bags. Confirm the exact battery count and capacity on the listing.
When is this kit cheapest?
DeWalt combo kits drop around Black Friday, Father's Day and end-of-season yard tool sales. Watch the price history and buy when it sits near its recent low.
