Our take on the DJI Mini 5 Pro

The DJI Mini 5 Pro is a sub-250g folding camera drone that can be flown in the US without registration under Part 107 recreational rules, and it is the successor to the Mini 4 Pro. It pairs a 1-inch-class camera with omnidirectional obstacle sensing and a smartphone-based controller, so you use your phone as the screen instead of a built-in display. At $759 at Adorama as of November 3, 2026, it sits near the top of its recent range; the Mini line has typically discounted during Black Friday and spring sales, so waiting can save $50 to $100.

Best forTravelers who want a drone under 250gFirst-time drone owners upgrading from a phone gimbalHikers and backpackers who need a compact kitCasual aerial photographers who edit on a phone
Pros
  • Under 250g, so no FAA registration for recreational flights
  • 1-inch sensor gives better low-light stills than earlier Minis
  • Omnidirectional obstacle sensing helps in tight spaces
  • Folds small enough for a jacket pocket
  • Smartphone controller keeps the kit light and cheap
Cons
  • Phone-as-screen means no built-in display and more battery drain
  • No propeller guards in the standard kit
  • Wind resistance is limited compared with larger drones
  • 4K high-frame-rate modes crop the sensor

What reviewers say

Owners of the Mini series generally praise the image quality jump from the 1-inch sensor and the reliability of the obstacle avoidance. Complaints center on the phone-based controller and on wind handling at the drone's weight limit.

Pros
  • Sharp, clean 4K footage for the size
  • Obstacle sensing that actually stops the drone
  • Easy folding and quick setup
  • Quiet props for a drone this small
Cons
  • Phone screen washes out in bright sun
  • Drifts in stronger gusts
  • Extra batteries and the Fly More kit add real cost

Questions and answers

Is the DJI Mini 5 Pro worth $759?
At $759 it is a fair price for a 1-inch-sensor drone under 250g, but it is near its recent high. If you are not flying soon, Black Friday discounts have historically taken $50 to $100 off Mini models.
Do I need to register the Mini 5 Pro with the FAA?
For recreational flying in the US, no, because it weighs under 250g. Commercial pilots still need Part 107 certification, and some countries have their own rules.
How does it compare with the Mini 4 Pro?
The main upgrade is the larger 1-inch sensor, which improves low-light photos and dynamic range. The Mini 4 Pro remains cheaper and is still a strong daylight flyer.
What is in the box?
The standard kit includes the drone, one battery, the smartphone controller, spare props and a cable. It does not include a charging hub or extra batteries; those come in the Fly More combo.
How long can it fly on one battery?
DJI rates flight time at roughly 30 to 35 minutes per battery in ideal conditions. Real-world flights with wind and hovering are usually closer to 25 minutes.
Does it work with my phone?
Yes, the controller holds a smartphone and works with most recent iOS and Android phones. A larger phone may feel top-heavy in the clamp.
Where is the DJI Mini 5 Pro cheapest?
At Adorama, for $759.00, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the DJI Mini 5 Pro?
5 stores we checked sell it, including Adorama, camrise, heliguy.com, eBay, Amazon.
