Our take on the HexClad Mega Cutlery Bundle, 17-pc

The HexClad Mega Cutlery Bundle is a 17-piece knife set built around six Japanese Damascus steel kitchen knives plus an 8-piece Damascus steak knife set, all held in a double-sided magnetic walnut block. The blades use 67 layers of Damascus steel at 60 Rockwell hardness with a 12-degree Honbazuke edge, and the green pakkawood handles are treated to resist shrinking. At $899 at HexClad as of November 3, 2026, it sits at the top of its recent range: the lowest daily price since October 30 was $499 on October 30, so the current price is $400 above that low.

Best forHome cooks who want one matching knife set for prep and steak serviceBuyers who prefer a magnetic walnut block over a slotted wooden oneAnyone upgrading from stamped supermarket knives to layered Damascus steelGift buyers looking for a large, presentable kitchen set
Pros
  • Six kitchen knives plus eight steak knives cover most prep and table tasks
  • 67-layer Damascus steel at 60 HRC holds an edge well
  • 12-degree Honbazuke edge is very sharp out of the box
  • Double-sided magnetic walnut block holds knives securely and protects edges
  • Green pakkawood handles resist shrinking and cracking
Cons
  • $899 is $400 above the $499 low seen on October 30, 2026
  • Only one store lists it new, so there is little price competition
  • 60 HRC Damascus blades are brittle and can chip if used on bones or frozen food
  • Hand wash and dry only; dishwashers damage pakkawood and edges
  • The block is large and needs counter or wall space

Questions and answers

Is the HexClad Mega Cutlery Bundle worth $899?
It is a large set with six Damascus kitchen knives, eight steak knives and a magnetic walnut block, so the per-knife cost is reasonable for layered steel. But it is $400 above the $499 low seen on October 30, 2026, so waiting for a drop makes sense if you are not in a hurry.
How does it compare with a standard HexClad or German knife set?
These are Japanese-style Damascus blades at 60 Rockwell with a 12-degree edge, which are harder and sharper than typical German steel at about 56 to 58 Rockwell and 15 to 20 degrees. The trade-off is that harder edges chip more easily, so avoid chopping bones or frozen food.
Do the knives need special care?
Yes. Hand wash and dry them promptly, and avoid the dishwasher, which can dull the edge and damage the pakkawood handles. Store them in the included magnetic block rather than loose in a drawer.
What exactly is in the box?
You get an 8-inch chef's knife, 7-inch santoku, 8-inch serrated bread knife, 5-inch utility knife, 3.5-inch paring knife and 6-inch boning and fillet knife, plus an 8-piece Damascus steak knife set and the double-sided magnetic walnut block.
When is the best time to buy it?
The lowest daily price since October 30, 2026 was $499 on October 30, against $899 on November 2 and November 3. Watch for holiday and bundle promotions, since only one store currently lists it new.
Is the steak knife set full-size?
The bundle includes eight Damascus steel steak knives, enough for a full table setting, and they store in the same magnetic block. They match the kitchen knives in steel and handle.
