Our take on the Kingchii 4500W Inverter Generator

The Kingchii 4500W Inverter Generator is a gasoline portable generator rated at 3600 running watts and 4500 surge watts, with five outlets and a pull-cord start. It runs about 8 hours at 66 dB, which is quieter than most open-frame generators but not as quiet as top inverter models. It is not CARB-compliant, so it cannot be registered or legally sold for use in California. It has no NRTL listing, meaning it lacks independent safety certification such as UL or ETL.

Questions and answers

Is the Kingchii 4500W inverter generator worth it?
It depends on where you live and what certification you need. The 3600 running watts and 66 dB are solid for the price, but the lack of CARB compliance and NRTL listing is a real drawback for California buyers and for anyone who needs a certified unit for a job site or insurance.
Can I use it in California?
No. It is not CARB-compliant, so it cannot be legally sold or registered for use in California. Buyers in other states should still check local rules for portable generators.
How loud is it compared with other generators?
At 66 dB it is quieter than most open-frame generators, which often run 70 dB or more. It is not as quiet as premium inverter models that claim around 52 to 58 dB, so expect noticeable sound at close range.
What can 3600 running watts power?
It can run a fridge, lights, a router and a TV at the same time, and the 4500 surge watts help start a fridge or a small window AC. It will not run a central AC, an electric dryer or a whole house.
Does it have an electric start or a 240V outlet?
No. It is pull-cord start only, and the listed outlets are five 120V outlets with no 240V or RV-style outlet specified. Check the panel before buying if you need to power a transfer switch or an RV.
When is the best time to buy it?
Prices on portable generators tend to drop ahead of storm season and during fall clearance. Compare the current price against its price history on this page before buying.
