Is the M1 MacBook Pro still worth buying in 2025?

Yes if the price is well below a current MacBook Air or 14-inch Pro. It still handles browsing, office work and coding well. Skip it if you need more than two ports or heavy video work.

How is it different from the M1 MacBook Air?

The Pro adds a fan, a brighter display, the Touch Bar and a slightly larger battery. The Air is lighter and cheaper. For short bursts of work they perform similarly.

Can I upgrade the RAM or storage later?

No. Memory and SSD are soldered to the logic board, so buy the 16 GB and larger SSD configuration up front if you need it.

How many external displays does it support?

One external display up to 6K at 60 Hz. Unlike later Pro models, it does not support two external monitors natively.

What comes in the box?

The laptop and a 61W USB-C power adapter with a USB-C charge cable. No mouse or sleeve is included.

Our take on the MacBook Pro (2020) 13-inch

The 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro with the Apple M1 chip is Apple's first Apple Silicon laptop. It pairs the M1's 8-core CPU with a 13.3-inch 2560 x 1600 Retina display, Touch Bar, Touch ID and up to 20 hours of rated battery life, all in a 3.1 lb aluminum body. The fan-cooled chassis sustains longer workloads than the fanless MacBook Air of the same year. It is a 2020 design now several chip generations old, so its value depends heavily on the price you pay.
