Our take on the Merrell Women's Agility Peak 5

The Merrell Agility Peak 5 is a women's trail running shoe built for rocky, technical terrain. It pairs a rock plate and an abrasion-resistant toe cap with a cushioned midsole and a grippy lugged outsole, so it handles both long efforts and rough ground. It is heavier and more protective than a road shoe, which is the trade-off for its durability and underfoot armor.

Questions and answers

Is the Agility Peak 5 worth it?
For trail runners who want protection and grip on rough ground, yes. It is a durable, well-cushioned shoe at a mid-range trail price. Runners who want a light, fast race shoe should look elsewhere.
How does it compare with the Agility Peak 4?
The Peak 5 keeps the rock plate and protective toe cap but adds more cushioning and a revised upper for a more comfortable fit. It is a bit heavier as a result.
Does it fit true to size?
Most buyers take their usual running shoe size. The fit runs slightly roomy in the toe box, which helps on long descents. Try a half size down if you prefer a snug fit.
Is it good for hiking as well as running?
Yes. The rock plate, toe cap and grippy outsole make it a capable light hiker. It is heavier than a dedicated hiking shoe but cushioned enough for long days.
What is in the box?
One pair of Merrell Agility Peak 5 shoes. No insoles beyond the stock footbed and no extras are included.
When is it cheapest?
Trail shoes like this tend to drop during end-of-season clearance and major sales events. Watch the price history for dips below the recent range before buying.
