Our take on the Vasque Women's Breeze AT GTX

The Vasque Women's Breeze AT GTX is a waterproof leather hiking boot built for day hikes and light backpacking. It pairs a 2.0mm nubuck upper with GORE-TEX Extended Comfort lining, an EVA-cushioned A.T.C. midsole and a Vibram Megagrip outsole. It comes in medium and wide widths, which is unusual for women's hiking boots. It is a solid all-weather trail boot rather than a technical mountaineering shoe.

Questions and answers

Is the Breeze AT GTX truly waterproof?
Yes. It uses a GORE-TEX Extended Comfort membrane behind a 2.0mm nubuck leather upper, so it sheds rain and puddle splashes. Water can still enter over the collar in deep crossings.
How does it fit compared to other Vasque boots?
It runs true to size for most wearers, with a roomier toe box than many women's boots. If you wear thick socks or have wide feet, the wide width is the safer pick.
Is it good for summer hiking?
It works, but the leather and GORE-TEX make it warmer than mesh trail shoes. For hot, dry conditions a ventilated shoe will be more comfortable.
What is the difference from the non-GTX Breeze?
The GTX version adds the GORE-TEX membrane for waterproofing. The standard Breeze is more breathable and lighter but not water-resistant.
Does it need breaking in?
Yes. The nubuck leather is stiff at first, so wear it on short walks for a week or two before a long hike.
What comes in the box?
One pair of boots. Insoles are included; laces come fitted.
