Best 1TB NVMe SSDs

Top pick: WD_BLACK SN770 1TB — the best balance of speed, reliability and price for most people. It's a PCIe 4.0 drive that's quick enough for gaming and everyday work, runs cool, and has the strongest owner ratings of the group.

Who the others suit:

• WD_BLACK SN850X with heatsink — if you're filling a PS5 or a board where a heatsink is needed; fastest of the WD line here.
• WD_BLACK SN7100 — a newer, faster Gen 4 drive for big game libraries and heavy transfers.
• WD Blue SN5100 — a plain, fast Gen 4 drive for general use and laptops.
• Kingston 1TB — solid Gen 4 alternative if the WD drives aren't available.
• Silicon Power P34A60 — budget Gen 3 for older laptops or a secondary drive; slower, but fine for storage.

Check your slot supports M.2 2280 and, for PS5, that you pick a heatsink version.
