Best women's winter coats with a hood

Start here: The North Face McMurdo Parka. It's the one I'd trust for a real cold-weather winter: 600-fill down, a two-layer waterproof shell and a hood built for wind, in a hip-length cut that's easy to wear over layers.

Who the others suit:

• Fjällräven Nuuk Parka — for wet, slushy cities and long walks; the most weatherproof of the group and the longest coverage.
• GLACIERFIT Insulated Padded Parka — for a tight budget without giving up a hood, waterproofing or a proper zip-and-flap front.
• Lenago Sherpa-Lined Hooded Parka — for milder cold and everyday errands, where fleece lining matters more than down.
• Emibierwe Hooded Puffer — for a fashion-forward, slim-fit look in moderate cold.

A note: several results were men's cuts or uninsulated shells, so I left those out. For true deep-winter warmth, prioritize down fill and a waterproof shell over a long puffer silhouette.
