What is the actual difference between the two kits?

One piece: the 163-piece set adds a Solana beechwood tabletop easel with a storage drawer. The 142-piece core set, the three paper pads, the 15 extra brushes, the palette and the mixing wheel are the same.

Is the easel worth the extra money?

If you paint or draw upright and do not own an easel, yes. It tilts to four angles and holds up to 11 x 14 in. If you already work flat on a desk, skip it and take the 162-piece set.

Which is better for a beginner?

The 163-piece set, because the easel gives a beginner a complete setup out of the box. The supplies themselves are identical, so neither set is more advanced.

Are the paints and pastels safe for teens?

The watercolors are non-toxic, water-based and acid-free and meet ASTM D4236 and EN71. The set is marketed for adults and aspiring artists, not as a child's toy.

Which has better brushes?

Neither. Both include 2 camel hair brushes in the case plus 15 paintbrushes in the extra pieces. Expect student grade; buy separate brushes if you want finer points.

How big is the easel?

It measures 13.25 in wide by 10.25 in deep by 2 in high and adjusts to 11 in high. It fits canvas and prints up to 11 x 14 in, so it is a desk easel, not a floor easel.
