Questions and answers

Is the 2024 iPad mini worth the extra $70?
Yes for most buyers. The A17 Pro chip, 8 GB RAM, USB-C and Apple Intelligence support make it last years longer. The older model at $369.95 at eBay as of November 6, 2026 is only the better buy if you want the lowest price for basic use.
Which is better for reading and watching video?
Both work well. The 2024 model has a slightly larger 8.3-inch screen and a faster chip for streaming apps, while the older 7.9-inch model is a bit smaller and lighter in the hand.
Which one lasts longer?
The 2024 model. Its A17 Pro chip and 8 GB RAM will keep getting iPadOS updates and Apple Intelligence features far longer than the A12 Bionic model, which is already near the end of its software life.
Do both support the Apple Pencil?
Yes, but different ones. The older iPad mini uses the first-generation Apple Pencil; the 2024 model uses Apple Pencil Pro, which adds squeeze, barrel roll and haptic feedback.
Is the camera much better on the 2024 model?
Yes. It has a 12 MP rear camera with 4K video and a 12 MP Ultra-Wide front camera with Center Stage, versus 8 MP and 7 MP on the older model.
