    Questions and answers

Which is better for detecting someone sitting still on a sofa?
Both use mmWave radar, so both catch still presence better than a plain PIR sensor. The FP2 adds up to 30 named zones, so you can automate the sofa area separately. The FP300 combines PIR with radar and covers a 120° view up to 6m.
Do I need a hub for either one?
The FP2 connects directly over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and works with Alexa, Google Home, HomeKit, Home Assistant and IFTTT without an Aqara hub. The FP300 uses Zigbee or Thread, so you need a compatible hub or border router, and an Aqara hub unlocks its advanced features.
Which one is better for a bathroom?
The FP2. It carries an IPX5 rating for humid rooms, and it can ignore shower curtains and other interference areas in the app. The FP300's listing does not state a water-resistance rating.
Is the FP300 worth the extra money?
Yes if you cannot run power to the spot or want temperature, humidity and light readings from the same device. If you have an outlet and mainly want room coverage, the FP2 does more for about $12 less at current prices.
Can either one detect a fall?
Only the FP2, and only when it is mounted on the ceiling. It sends an alert through the Aqara app when a fall is detected. The FP300 does not list fall detection.
    Which lasts longer without maintenance?
The FP300 runs up to 3 years on two CR2450 batteries in Zigbee mode, or about 2 years on Thread. The FP2 has no battery but must stay plugged in, so a power cut takes it offline.
