Questions and answers
- Which is better for a Ryzen 7 5800X build?
- The Asus. Its 12+2 power stages and VRM cooling handle an eight-core chip with more headroom, and you get Wi-Fi and 2.5Gb Ethernet without add-in cards.
- Do I need Wi-Fi on a desktop motherboard?
- Only if you cannot run an Ethernet cable. The ASRock has no wireless, so you would add a PCIe Wi-Fi card, which eats a slot and costs money.
- Is the Asus worth the extra $16?
- Yes for most buyers. Wi-Fi 6E, 2.5Gb Ethernet, USB-C and better audio would cost more than $16 as separate parts.
- Which has better audio?
- The Asus. Its SupremeFX S1220A codec is a higher-tier chip than the Realtek ALC1200 on the ASRock, though both drive 7.1 setups.
- Does either support ECC memory?
- The ASRock lists ECC and non-ECC unbuffered DDR4 support. The Asus does not list ECC, so treat it as non-ECC only.
- Will both fit the same case?
- Yes. Both are ATX AM4 boards with four DDR4 slots and up to 128GB, so case and CPU compatibility are the same.
