Which is better for a first turntable at home?

The AT-LP70X. It plays both speeds, starts and stops automatically, and its VM95C cartridge can be upgraded. The Sound Burger is better as a second, portable player.

Can the Sound Burger play 33⅓ LPs?

Its spec lists 45 RPM only. Most LPs are 33⅓, so the LP70X is the safer choice for a full record collection.

The LP70X has the edge. Its larger body, longer J-shaped tonearm and upgradeable VM95 stylus give better tracking and less vibration than the compact Sound Burger.

Is the LP70X worth about $50 more?

Yes for home use. At $249.00 versus $199.00 at Best Buy as of November 7, 2026, you get both speeds, automatic operation and an upgrade path.

Does either need a separate phono preamp?

No. Both have a built-in preamp. The LP70X outputs RCA with a ground wire; the Sound Burger gives line-level output and adds Bluetooth.

The LP70X is built for stationary home use with a sturdier body, so it should hold up better over years. The Sound Burger is a portable design with a battery that will age with use.
