Questions and answers
- Which is better for a beginner?
- The Baofeng GM-15 Pro is simpler with 30 GMRS channels and no mode switching. The TD-H3 adds ham and VHF bands, which means more settings to learn.
- Which has more channels?
- The TD-H3 has 199 channels against 30 on the GM-15 Pro. That matters if you program many repeaters or scan a lot.
- Which lasts longer on a charge?
- TIDRADIO rates the TD-H3 at 48 hours of use from its 2500 mAh battery. Baofeng does not state a battery capacity or runtime for the GM-15 Pro.
- Do I need a license for either?
- Yes for GMRS transmit on both. The TD-H3 also covers ham bands, which need an amateur license to transmit.
- Is the TD-H3 worth the extra?
- At $37.99 as of November 1, 2026, it adds dual watch, 199 channels, and a larger battery. Buy it if you will use those; otherwise the simpler GM-15 Pro is enough.
- Can either handle rain?
- The TD-H3 is listed as not water resistant. Baofeng does not list a water rating for the GM-15 Pro, so treat both as dry-weather radios.
