Which is better for homes with both carpet and hard floors?

The Dyson. Its self-adjusting cleaner head raises and lowers to keep suction sealed as you move between surfaces. The Bissell needs manual height changes.

Which handles pet hair better?

Both are built for pet hair. The Bissell uses a tangle-free brush roll; the Dyson uses a de-tangling brush bar plus HEPA filtration that traps pet dander.

Is the Dyson worth the extra money?

If you have mixed flooring, allergies or lots of furniture to steer around, yes. If you want a light, low-cost pet vacuum, the Bissell covers the basics for less.

Which has the bigger bin?

The Dyson, at about 0.55 gal versus 0.2 gal on the Bissell. The Bissell's small bin means emptying it more often.

Which is easier to carry upstairs?

Does the Dyson need bags?
