Which is better for color grading?

Resolve. Its dedicated Color page with node-based grading is the industry standard, while Premiere relies on the Lumetri panel. Premiere's Lumetri is simpler for quick corrections.

Is Resolve really a one-time purchase?

Yes. The $25.00 key at Softleck as of November 4, 2026 is perpetual and does not renew. Major version upgrades are sold separately, unlike Premiere's included updates.

Which is better for YouTube editing?

Either works. Premiere's simpler timeline and Getting Started mode suit new editors, while Resolve's free-form tools and one-time price suit budget-conscious creators.

Do I need After Effects with Resolve?

No. Resolve includes Fusion for compositing and motion graphics. If your team already builds shots in After Effects, Premiere's round-trip saves time.

Which handles 8K footage better?

Premiere, which edits up to 8K natively and generates proxies for smooth playback. Resolve handles high resolutions too but may need transcoding for some formats.

Is Premiere worth the extra cost?

Only if you depend on Adobe apps or need included updates. Otherwise Resolve at $25.00 versus $198.00 per year is far cheaper over time.
