Which is better for a home office desk?

The C2G, because its 6 ft cord reaches from a wall outlet up to a desk. The Cable Leader's 14 in cord only works if the outlet is right beside the devices.

Does 14 AWG matter over 16 AWG?

Yes for heavier loads. 14 AWG has lower resistance and handles more current, which suits a space heater or laser printer better. The C2G is rated 10 A at 125 V.

Is the Cable Leader worth the extra $1.58?

Only if you need the thicker wire or the low profile plug. For light loads like a monitor and a lamp, the C2G does the same job for less.

Will either one block the second wall outlet?

The Cable Leader is less likely to, because it is built with a low profile plug. The C2G uses a standard molded plug that can cover the neighboring outlet.

Can I plug a surge strip into either one?

You can, but keep the total load within the cord's rating. The C2G is rated 10 A; the Cable Leader's max amperage is not stated in its listed specs.

Do both fit standard US outlets?

Yes. Both use a NEMA 5-15P plug into a standard 125 V outlet and give two NEMA 5-15R outlets, with three prongs including ground.

Buy the C2G if you need reach: its 6 ft cord lets you split one wall outlet across a desk or rack. Buy the Cable Leader if the outlet is right there and you may pull heavier loads, since 14 AWG handles more current than 16 AWG. The C2G is $9.21 at Connection as of November 4, 2026, and the Cable Leader is $10.79 at eBay as of the same date.
