Questions and answers
- Are these the same wire electrically?
- Yes. Both are 8 AWG, 2-conductor-with-ground NM-B copper cable rated 40 A at 600 V for dry, above-ground indoor use. The choice comes down to length, jacket and price, not performance.
- Which is better for a 40 A heat pump or AC circuit?
- Either works. Both are rated 40 A and both list heat pump and AC compressor use, so pick by run length: 25 ft of Romex or 50 ft of Cerrowire.
- Is the Romex worth it over the Cerrowire?
- It is $2 cheaper at Amazon and the SIMpull jacket is easier to pull and strip. If you need more than 25 ft, the 50 ft Cerrowire avoids a splice and is the better buy.
- Can I use either one outdoors or underground?
- No. NM-B is for dry, above-ground indoor locations only. Neither cable is rated for wet locations or direct burial.
- Which lasts longer?
- Both are copper NM-B with similar insulation, so service life is comparable. The Romex has a large rating base at 4.7 out of 5; the Cerrowire has no rating shown.
- How many stores sell each?
- As of November 3, 2026, 5 stores price the Cerrowire new and 2 stores price the Romex new. Amazon has the best price on both.
