Which is better for a beginner?

The Sonic Mustang HH. It is new, has a warranty, and its 24-inch scale and hardtail bridge are easier to manage than a used guitar with a tremolo.

Which has more tonal options?

The Jazzmaster HH, because its push-pull tone pot splits the humbuckers for single-coil tones. The Mustang HH has humbuckers only.

Is the Jazzmaster worth buying used with finish cracks?

Finish cracks at the neck pocket are usually cosmetic, but they lower resale value and there is no warranty. Check the neck joint in person before buying.

Which is better for small hands?

The Sonic Mustang HH. Its 24-inch scale shortens the reach between frets and makes bending easier than the Jazzmaster's 25.5-inch scale.

Which stays in tune better?

The Mustang's 6-saddle hardtail bridge is simpler and usually more stable than a vintage-style synchronized tremolo, especially on a used guitar.

Does either come with a case?

No. The Jazzmaster seller states there is no case or gig bag, and the Mustang is sold without one.
