Which is better for a family of four?

The GE. Its 12 place settings cover a family's daily load, while the BLACK+DECKER's 6 settings would need two runs a day.

The GE at 54 dB. The BLACK+DECKER is rated 60 dB, which is noticeably louder in a small room.

Is the GE worth the larger footprint?

Yes if you have floor space and wash for more than two people. The extra capacity and sanitize cycle are the main reasons to give up the space.

Does the BLACK+DECKER sanitize dishes?

No sanitize cycle is listed. It has a Baby Care cycle, but that is not the same as an NSF-certified high-temperature rinse.

Neither maker publishes a lifespan figure. The GE has a stainless steel tub and a hard food disposer, which tend to hold up better than a compact plastic-tub unit under daily use.

How do the prices compare?

The BLACK+DECKER's lowest recent price was $299.99 as of November 1, 2026, and its highest was $500.99 on November 2. No price was given for the GE, so check its current store prices before deciding.
