Which set is better for a family of four?

The Gibson Home set. It has 12 pieces covering dinner plates, dessert plates and bowls for four people. The Zak set has only two 8-inch plates.

Can the Zak Designs plates go in the microwave?

No. Zak lists the melamine-bamboo plates as not microwave safe. The Gibson stoneware pieces are microwave safe.

Is the Gibson Home set worth about $26 more?

For everyday family meals, yes. You get six times the piece count, bowls, larger dinner plates and microwave use. The Zak set is cheaper but only covers two small plates.

Which set lasts longer?

The Gibson stoneware is thicker and chip-resistant, so it should hold up better to daily use. Melamine is light but can scratch, stain and warp with heat.

Are both dishwasher safe?

Yes. Both sets are listed as dishwasher safe.

Which is better for a young child?

The Zak Designs set. The 8-inch plates are kid-sized and the Spidey artwork appeals to young fans. Keep them out of the microwave.
