Which is better for a 4-year-old just starting numbers?

The Numberblocks Express Train. It focuses on counting, adding, subtracting and making 5 with physical pieces, and the text-free cards let a pre-reader work alone. Osmo spreads four games across several subjects, so math gets less depth.

Do I need an iPad for the Osmo kit?

Yes. Osmo requires an iPad running iPadOS 10 or later, and the tablet is not included. The Numberblocks set needs no device at all.

Which lasts longer as my child grows?

The Numberblocks set is listed for ages 3 to 8, so it stretches past preschool. Osmo's Little Genius kit targets ages 3-5, so most kids outgrow it around kindergarten.

Is the Osmo kit worth the extra cost?

Only if you want phonics, drawing and social-emotional practice in one kit and already own a compatible iPad. For math alone, the Numberblocks set does the job for less.

Can two children use either one together?

The Numberblocks pieces can be shared, though the cards are designed for one child at a time. Osmo is single player with no multiplayer mode.

Which has better ratings?

The Numberblocks set has 4.8 out of 5 from 5 ratings; Osmo has 4.2 out of 5 from 5 ratings. Both samples are small, so treat them as a rough signal.
