Which is better for a family with kids and pets?

The Hawthorne. Leather wipes clean and resists odors, while chenille traps hair and stains. The trade-off is that claws can scratch semi-aniline leather.

The Hawthorne should. Its leather and wood frame are built for a decade or more of daily use. Down feather fill in the Free Combination compresses and needs replacing sooner.

Is the Hawthorne worth the extra money?

If you want leather and a deep chaise, yes. At $3,549.99 at MidinMod as of November 3, 2026, it costs far more than the Free Combination, but the materials are a step up.

Which fits a small living room?

The Free Combination. At 283 cm wide and 89 cm deep it fits where the 392 cm Hawthorne will not. The Hawthorne needs a wall of roughly 4 meters.

Can I lie down on either one?

Yes, but the Hawthorne is better for it. Its chaise seat is 65.7 in deep. The Free Combination is only 35 in deep overall, so you stretch out along the length instead.

Which is easier to move?

The Free Combination. Its modular pieces separate and the ottoman reverses. The Hawthorne ships as three heavy sections, with the LAF sofa alone at 80 kg.
