Which is better for a beginner?

The Rider-Waite. Its images are the ones most tarot books and courses teach, so you can follow along with almost any guide. The Light Seer's guidebook helps, but fewer outside resources match its art.

Is the Light Seer's Tarot worth the extra cost?

The gap is small: $20.68 versus $20.46 at Amazon as of November 7, 2026. The extra buys a hardcover guidebook and modern art, so it is worth it if you prefer that style over the classic deck.

Do both decks have 78 cards?

Yes. Both are full 78-card tarot decks. The Rider-Waite includes a small instruction booklet; the Light Seer's includes a hardcover guidebook.

Which deck lasts longer?

Both are standard cardstock decks that hold up with normal use. The Rider-Waite is lighter and easier to replace, and it has been in print since 1971, so replacements are easy to find.

Can I use Rider-Waite meanings with the Light Seer's Tarot?

Mostly yes, since it follows the same structure and card names. The art changes the feel of some cards, so read the Light Seer's guidebook for its own interpretations.

Which is better as a gift?

The Light Seer's Tarot looks more striking as a gift, with its color art and hardcover book. The Rider-Waite suits someone who wants to study tarot seriously.
