Which is better for gaming?

The Core i9-14900KF. Its much higher boost clock and newer architecture give it a clear lead in games, and it works on cheaper boards.

Which is better for video rendering and 3D work?

The Threadripper PRO 3975WX. Its 32 cores, 64 threads, and 128 MB L3 cache finish long multithreaded renders faster than the 24-core i9.

Is the Threadripper PRO worth the extra money?

Only if you need its platform. The CPU costs $547.95 versus $422 on November 3, 2026, but the sWRX8 motherboard and eight ECC DIMMs add far more to the build.

Which uses less power?

The Core i9-14900KF, at a 253 W TDP versus 280 W. Real all-core draw depends on the workload and BIOS limits.

Can I use regular DDR4 with the Threadripper PRO?

Yes, but it is designed for eight-channel registered ECC DDR4-3200. You need an sWRX8 board with eight DIMM slots to use its full memory bandwidth.

Which lasts longer before needing an upgrade?

The Threadripper PRO 3975WX, because 32 cores and 128 PCIe lanes stay useful for workstation work longer than a 24-core mainstream chip.
