Which is better for a 2 year old?

The LEGO DUPLO 10914. Its bricks are rated from 1.5 years and are too large to swallow. The Soyee tiles are rated 3 and up because the pieces are small.

Which has more pieces?

The Soyee set has 102 magnetic tiles. The DUPLO Deluxe Brick Box has fewer pieces but includes numbered bricks and figures.

Do the Soyee tiles work with other brands?

Yes. The set is sold as a refill that works with other magnetic tile brands, so you can mix it with tiles you already own.

Which is better for STEM learning?

The Soyee tiles suit geometry, shapes and spatial reasoning for ages 3 and up. DUPLO covers number play 1-5 and pretend building for younger toddlers.

DUPLO bricks are drop, heat and bite tested and rarely break. Magnetic tiles are durable but thin plastic can crack if stepped on, and magnets can loosen if a tile is damaged.

Do either need batteries?

No. Both are manual, battery-free toys.

Buy the LEGO DUPLO Deluxe Brick Box 10914 for a 1.5 to 3 year old who still mouths pieces and needs big, chunky bricks that click together. Buy the Soyee 102-piece magnetic tile set for a child 3 and up who wants to build houses, towers and shapes that hold without studs. The LEGO set is the safer first building toy; the Soyee set gives more pieces and open-ended building for older toddlers.
