Questions and answers
- Which is better for watching movies?
- The LG B5. It is a 77-inch 4K OLED with 120 Hz refresh and HDR, while the Switch tops out at 1080p on a 7-inch screen.
- Which is better for gaming?
- It depends on the games. The Switch bundle plays Mario Kart 8 Deluxe anywhere; the LG B5 is the better display for a PS5, Xbox or PC at 4K 120 Hz.
- Is the LG B5 worth the extra money?
- Only if you need a large TV. At $1,499.99 at Best Buy as of October 28 it costs far more than the $249.99 Switch bundle at Walmart as of October 28, but they serve different rooms and uses.
- Which lasts longer?
- The Switch has a rechargeable battery that degrades over years of handheld play. The LG B5 has no battery, but OLED pixels can dim unevenly with years of static content.
- Can the Switch connect to the LG B5?
- Yes. Dock the Switch and plug it into one of the LG's four HDMI ports. Output stays at 1080p, so the TV's 4K panel is not fully used.
- Do I need both?
- Only if you want a big-screen TV and portable Nintendo games. Neither replaces the other.
