Which is better for family camping?

The Midland GXT1000VP4. You get two radios, AA battery backup and a 3-year warranty for $79.99 at Lowe's as of November 7, 2026. The BTECH is one radio at $154.89 and its extra features go unused on a campsite.

Is the BTECH GMRS-PRO worth the extra money?

Yes if you use GMRS repeaters, need a submersible radio, or want GPS and Bluetooth. Otherwise the Midland covers short-range group talk for half the price per radio.

Which has better range?

The BTECH, mainly through repeater access. The Midland's 36-mile figure assumes open terrain with no obstructions; in woods or hills expect a mile or two.

Which is more waterproof?

The BTECH. It is IP67 rated for 30 minutes in 1 m of water. The Midland is JIS4, which handles rain and spray but not a drop in a lake.

Do both need an FCC license?

Yes. Both are GMRS radios. One $35 FCC license covers you and your immediate family for 10 years.

Which lasts longer on a charge?

Close. The BTECH claims about 14 hours from its 2600mAh battery; the Midland claims about 12 hours. The Midland can swap to AA batteries in the field, which the BTECH cannot.
