Which is better for a NAS?

The new Exos ST28000NM000C is the safer pick for a NAS because it is CMR and carries a 3-year warranty. A recertified Exos M works but adds lifespan risk to a RAID array.

Is the Exos M faster?

On paper they are close: both are 7200 rpm SATA drives rated around 190 MB/s sequential read. The 3TB-per-platter Exos M may sustain higher inner-track speeds, but neither is an SSD replacement.

A new drive with a full warranty is the safer bet for long service. Recertified units have already seen use, and reviewers of the Exos M raised doubts about long-term durability.

Is the Exos M worth the extra?

Only if it costs less than the new Exos and you accept recertified condition. If prices are close, buy the new ST28000NM000C for the warranty.

Can I use either in a desktop PC?

Yes, both are standard 3.5-inch SATA drives. Expect noise and heat at 7200 rpm, and make sure your case has a free SATA power lead.

Seagate Exos ST28000NM000C 28TB 7.2K RPM SATA 6Gb/s 512e CMR 3.5in Hard Drive vs Seagate Exos M ST28000NM003K 28TB SATA 6Gb/s 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Both are 28TB Seagate Exos 3.5-inch SATA drives at 7200 rpm, so the choice comes down to condition and price. The Exos M (B) is a newer 3TB-per-platter design, but the unit our agent saw was recertified, so buyers should confirm condition before paying a premium. Check the latest prices for both on Deal.ai before deciding; the cheaper new drive is usually the better buy.
