Which is better for a PS5?

Both work. The Seagate is officially licensed and its heatsink is sized for the PS5 bay, so fit is guaranteed. The WD SN850P PS5 version also fits and performs at the same rated read speed.

The Seagate 2TB is rated at 2,550 TBW versus 1,200 TBW for the WD 2TB, so the Seagate has more write endurance on paper. Real-world life depends on how much you install and delete.

Is the WD worth the extra?

At $439.99 at Staples as of November 7, 2026 it costs more than the Seagate's 2TB price, so the Seagate is the better value at 2TB. The WD earns its price if you need 4TB or 8TB.

Do I need a heatsink for the PS5?

Yes. Sony requires a heatsink on PS5 M.2 drives. Both of these ship with one, so neither needs extra parts.

Can I play PS5 games from either drive?

Yes. Both are PCIe Gen4 NVMe drives, and PS5 games run directly from them, not just PS4 titles.

Which is cheaper right now?

The WD 2TB hit $321.99 on November 3, 2026, but was $439.99 at Staples as of November 7, 2026. No price was given for the Seagate, so check its current price before deciding.

The Seagate Game Drive 2TB is officially licensed for PS5 and rated up to 7,300 MB/s read and 6,900 MB/s write. The WD SN850P is a well-reviewed drive sold in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB sizes; its 2TB price hit $321.99 on November 3, 2026 and $439.99 at Staples as of November 7, 2026. Buy the Seagate if you want a guaranteed-fit licensed drive at a lower price; buy the WD if you want more capacity options or a proven track record across 1,000 ratings.
