Does the VEVOR turn on by itself?

Yes. Its pressure switch starts the pump when pressure drops into the 20-40 PSI range and shuts it off outside that range.

Is the AQUASTRONG worth the extra cost?

Buy the VEVOR if you want a cheaper pump with a standard 1 in. outlet that drops into an existing sprinkler system. Buy the AQUASTRONG if you need more head and bigger plumbing: 108 ft of lift and 2 in. suction. Both are 1.5 HP cast iron pumps, but the AQUASTRONG moves more water at higher pressure. The VEVOR lists at $159 at Distritech as of November 3; the AQUASTRONG price was not given.
