Which is better for wiring outlets and switches?

Both are sold as 8/2 NM-B with ground, which is standard for 40-amp branch circuits indoors. The Southwire has the stronger rating history, but check the label because its specs also list UF-B and 10 AWG.

Is one worth the extra money?

There is no extra: both are $103.00 as of November 3, 2026. At the same price, the Southwire's 252 ratings make it the safer pick.

Both use copper conductors with PVC and nylon jackets rated to 90°C, so service life should be similar indoors. The bigger risk is buying the wrong gauge or cable type, so verify the printed label.

Can either be buried underground?

No. NM-B is for dry, indoor, above-ground use. The Southwire specs mention UF-B and direct burial, but the product name says NM-B, so do not bury it without confirming.

How many stores sell each?

The VN Infinite is priced new at 3 stores and the Southwire at 2 stores as of November 3, 2026. Both show $103.00 as the best new price.

VN Infinite quality 8/2 NM-B Nonmetallic with Ground Sheathed Cable Residential Indoor Wire (25 ft) vs Southwire 28893621 8/2 AWG 25ft. Nonmetallic With Ground Sheathed Cable

These two listings are hard to separate: both are priced at $103.00 as of November 3, 2026, one at The Home Depot and one at Amazon. The Southwire name has far more track record, with 252 ratings at 4.7, while the VN Infinite listing has a single 5-star rating. Buy the Southwire if you want a known brand and proven jacket; buy the VN Infinite only if the Home Depot listing is the one you can actually get. Note that both product pages carry conflicting specs, so confirm the gauge and length on the label before you buy.
