Which is better for reversing?

The AUTO-VOX V5 Pro. It is a backup camera kit built for reversing, with a wireless rear camera and a 1080p feed to the mirror screen. The G840S is aimed at recording the road ahead.

Which has better video quality?

The Wolfbox G840S records 4K in front. The V5 Pro records 1080p at 30 FPS. For detail in a plate or a face, the G840S has the edge.

Is the V5 Pro worth the extra money?

Only if reversing is your main need. At $149.99 at Amazon as of November 7, 2026, it costs far more than the $38.99 G840S at eBay, and it gives you a backup camera rather than a dash cam.

Can the G840S record while parked?

Yes, with 24/7 parking monitoring, but only if a hardwire kit is installed. That kit is not included in the base price.

Neither maker publishes a lifespan figure. The G840S has more electronics and a bigger screen, while the V5 Pro is a simpler kit, so long-term reliability depends on installation and heat exposure.

Do both cover 170 degrees?

Yes. Both list a 170° field of view, so the width of the picture is similar.
