Is the iPad Air 2 still worth buying in 2026?

Only as a cheap device for reading, video and light browsing. It stopped at iPadOS 15, so many newer apps will not install or update, and it gets no security patches.

How is it different from the iPad Air 3?

The Air 3 has a 10.5-inch screen, the A12 chip, 3GB of RAM, Apple Pencil support and a Smart Connector. The Air 2 has none of those and is stuck on older software.

Does it support the Apple Pencil?

No. Apple Pencil support started with the iPad Pro and iPad 6th generation; the Air 2 works only with a finger or a third-party stylus.

A new unit typically includes the tablet, a Lightning cable and a USB power adapter. Check the listing, since some sellers ship the tablet only.

How long does the battery last?

Apple rated it at about 10 hours of web browsing or video. On a new-old-stock unit from 2014 the battery has aged, so expect less and plan on a replacement eventually.

When is the price lowest?

Prices for discontinued tablets drift down over time and spike when stock dries up. At $140 for 128GB as of November 5, 2026, it is near the floor for this model.

It is thin and light at about 437 grams, has a headphone jack and Lightning port, and runs iOS up to iPadOS 15. The best new price is $140 at KenDoTronics as of November 5, 2026, with two stores listing it new.
