Is the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Gen 8 good for students?

Yes, for basic schoolwork. The 1080p screen, 10-hour battery and octa-core CPU cover documents, web research and video calls. Heavy design or engineering software will not run well on 8 GB of RAM and Intel integrated graphics.

Can I upgrade the RAM and storage?

Storage is the easier upgrade: the 128 GB drive can be swapped for a larger SSD. RAM is often soldered on Slim 3 models, so check the specific configuration before buying if you need more than 8 GB.

How does it compare with the IdeaPad Slim 3 Gen 7?

The Gen 8 moves to a newer Intel platform and keeps the same 15.6-inch 1080p formula. Gains are modest, so a cheaper Gen 7 is worth considering if the price gap is large.

Is $299 a good price for this laptop?

At $299 at eBay as of November 6, 2026, it is at the low end of this model's recent range. That is a fair price for a new 15.6-inch 1080p laptop, though 128 GB of storage is the trade-off.

Does it have USB-C and HDMI?

Yes. It includes USB-C and HDMI, so you can connect a monitor or projector without an adapter. Check the full port list for USB-A and an SD card reader if you need them.

How long does the battery last?

Lenovo rates it at up to 10 hours. Real-world use with Wi-Fi and a bright screen will be shorter, but owners report a full day of light work.
