Is the Samsonite Opto 4 Spinner worth it at $161.99?

At $161.99 at JCPenney as of November 3, 2026, it is a reasonable price for a 29-inch Samsonite hard-shell spinner. It sits just above the $159.99 low seen on November 2, 2026, so the difference is small.

Is 11.4 lb too heavy for a checked suitcase?

It is on the heavy side for a 29-inch case, and many airlines cap checked bags at 50 lb. That leaves roughly 38 lb of packing before you hit overweight fees.

Will this fit in an overhead bin?

No. At 29 inches it is a checked bag only. You will need a separate carry-on for the cabin.

How does it compare with the previous Opto generation?

The Opto 4 is the fourth generation of this line, with the same hard-shell spinner formula. Without side-by-side specs, the main differences are cosmetic and in wheel and handle details rather than capacity.

You get the suitcase itself. A luggage tag or travel accessories are not typically included, so plan to add your own.

The lowest price recorded so far is $159.99 on November 2, 2026, only $2 below the current $161.99. Watch for holiday and back-to-school sales, when large checked cases usually drop.
