Is the iPad Air 5th generation still worth buying?

Yes, if you want M1 performance and Apple Pencil support without iPad Pro pricing. At $350 at Walmart as of November 8, 2026, it is a strong value for a cellular tablet.

How does it compare to the iPad Air 4th generation?

The Air 5 uses the M1 chip instead of the A14, adds 5G on cellular models and doubles the front camera to 12MP with Center Stage. The design, screen size and Pencil support are otherwise the same.

It is tight for most people. Apps, photos and downloaded video add up fast, and there is no memory card slot, so consider cloud storage or a higher-capacity model.

Does it work with the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard?

Yes. It supports the second-generation Apple Pencil, which charges magnetically on the side, and the Magic Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio made for the 10.9-inch Air.

The iPad Air, a USB-C charging cable and a 20W USB-C power adapter. The Apple Pencil and keyboard are sold separately.

Does the cellular model require a contract?

No. It takes a physical or eSIM plan from a carrier, and you can add or cancel data plans as needed.
