Our take on the 10K Yellow Gold 2.3mm Laser Rope Chain Necklace (22 Inches) (2.5 g)

A 22-inch rope chain in 10k yellow gold, 2.3mm wide and about 2.5 grams. The links are hollow, which keeps the weight and cost down while giving the look of a heavier chain. The only new price found is $418.90 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, with no other new listings to compare against. That works out to roughly $168 per gram of gold, well above the metal's spot value, so most of the price is labor and markup.

Best for
Men or women wanting a thin everyday gold chain
First gold chain or a gift on a budget
Wearing with a small pendant or alone
Buyers who prefer a lobster clasp over a spring ring
Pros
  • Solid 10k gold, not plated, so it will not flake or turn skin green
  • Light 2.5 g weight sits comfortably and suits daily wear
  • 2.3mm width reads as a clean, understated chain
  • 22 inches fits most men and sits below the collarbone on women
  • Lobster clasp is more secure than a spring ring
Cons
  • Hollow links dent and crush under pressure and are hard to repair
  • At $418.90 it costs far more than its gold content
  • Only one new price listed, so there is no competition to shop
  • 2.3mm is thin for pendants heavier than a few grams
  • 10k gold is less yellow and less valuable than 14k or 18k

Questions and answers

Is a hollow rope chain durable enough for daily wear?
For light daily wear, yes, but hollow links bend and dent if caught or pulled. Take it off for gym sessions, sleeping and anything that tugs at the neck.
Is $418.90 a fair price for 2.5 grams of 10k gold?
The gold itself is worth a small fraction of that at current spot prices. You are paying mostly for the chain's construction and retail markup, so compare against other 10k rope chains of the same width before buying.
Will a 2.3mm chain hold a pendant?
A small, light pendant of a few grams is fine. Anything heavy will stretch or kink the hollow links, so keep pendants light or choose a wider solid chain.
Does 10k gold tarnish or turn skin green?
10k gold is 41.7% gold alloyed with other metals, so it can darken over time and may react with some skin. It is not plated, so it will not wear through to a base metal.
What is the difference between 10k and 14k gold here?
14k is 58.5% gold, so it is more yellow, more scratch-resistant and worth more per gram. A 14k chain of the same size will cost noticeably more.
How should I clean and store it?
Wipe with a soft cloth and warm soapy water, dry fully, and store flat or hanging in a pouch. Avoid chlorine and harsh cleaners, which dull the alloy.
Where is the 10K Yellow Gold 2.3mm Laser Rope Chain Necklace (22 Inches) (2.5 g) cheapest?
