Is this bucket worth it over a hardware-store bucket?

The 90 mil walls and gasketed lid are heavier than the thin buckets sold at most hardware stores. If you need a real airtight seal for long-term food or water storage, the upgrade is worth it. For light yard use, a cheaper bucket is fine.

Can I reuse the lid after opening it?

The tear-strip lid is designed for a one-time seal. Once opened, it can be pressed back on but will not seal airtight again. Most owners switch to a 12-inch gamma seal lid for regular access.

Will a gamma seal lid fit?

Yes, the bucket accepts most 12-inch gamma seal lids. The lid is not included and is sold separately.

How much does it hold?

Five gallons, or 640 ounces. That is roughly 35 to 40 pounds of flour or grain, or about 40 pounds of water.

Is it safe for drinking water and food?

The HDPE plastic is food grade and BPA-free. Wash and dry it before first use, and use a food-grade liner if you plan to store drinking water long term.

When is the best time to buy?

Six-packs tend to drop in price during spring cleaning and emergency-preparedness sales. Compare the per-bucket price across stores before buying.

Our take on the 5 Gallon Food Grade Bucket with Airtight Lid

This is a 6-pack of 5-gallon HDPE buckets with airtight gasketed tear-strip lids, 90 mil thick, 11.9 inches across and 14.56 inches tall. The thick walls and freezer rating to -5°F suit bulk grain, flour, pet food and emergency water storage. The gasketed lid seals out moisture and pests, and the buckets accept most 12-inch gamma seal lids for everyday screw-on access. No price was provided, so compare the per-bucket cost against local hardware and farm-supply stores before buying a six-pack.
