Our take on the 52 Pack Professional Sketch Pencil Set in Zipper Carry Case

A 52-piece drawing kit in a zippered carry case, aimed at beginners and hobbyists who want one box with pencils, charcoal, blending tools and accessories. The set covers graphite grades from hard to soft plus sketching extras, so it works for shading practice, life drawing and travel. It is a budget-priced starter kit rather than an artist-grade set, and prices on a 52-piece kit of this type usually sit in the low double digits to around $30 depending on the seller.

  • Low cost per piece compared with buying singles
  • Good for practice and sketching, not precious about wear
Cons

Questions and answers

Is this set good for a complete beginner?
Yes. It covers the graphite grades and charcoal you need to learn shading and value, and the included stumps and erasers remove the need for extra purchases. Expect to sharpen often, since beginner-grade cores are soft.
How does it compare with a smaller 24- or 36-piece set?
The extra pieces are mostly additional grades and accessories rather than better pencils. If you only sketch in graphite, a smaller set covers the same ground; the 52-piece version suits people who also want charcoal and blending tools.
Are the pencils artist grade?
No. They are beginner to student grade. They are fine for practice and sketchbooks, but artists who sell work usually move to branded artist-grade pencils for consistent cores and lightfastness.
What comes in the case?
A mix of graphite pencils across hardness grades, charcoal and sketching pencils, plus accessories such as a sharpener, eraser and blending stumps, held in elastic loops inside a zippered case. Check the listing for the exact piece-by-piece breakdown.
When is the best time to buy it?
Sets like this see the deepest discounts during back-to-school season and major sale events. Compare the current price against its recent range before buying, since list prices on budget art sets swing widely.
