Our take on the adidas Initiation Junior Basketball Shoes

The adidas Initiation is an entry-level kids' basketball shoe with a textile upper, rubber outsole and a slip-resistant sole. The only new price listed is $41.25 at Kohl's as of November 5, 2026, which is a low, budget-tier price for a branded basketball sneaker.

Questions and answers

Is the adidas Initiation worth it for a beginner?
Yes. At $41.25 at Kohl's as of November 5, 2026, it is a low-cost way to get a real basketball shoe for a kid just starting out. It covers the basics without the price of a signature model.
What sizes does it come in?
It is listed in little kids' sizes 11K to 13K and big kids' sizes 3.5 to 7. The size 6.5 listing is a big kids' (grade school) size.
Does it fit true to size?
Kids' adidas basketball shoes generally run close to standard kids' sizing, but growing feet benefit from a little room. Try them on with the socks your child will play in.
Is it good for outdoor courts?
The rubber outsole handles playground and driveway play, but the textile upper and basic cushioning wear faster outdoors than on a gym floor.
How does it compare with a higher-end kids' basketball shoe?
Premium models add better cushioning, stronger lateral support and more durable materials. The Initiation trades those for a much lower price, which suits casual and beginner play.
When is it cheapest?
The listed price of $41.25 at Kohl's as of November 5, 2026 is already at the budget end for a branded kids' basketball shoe. Watch for seasonal sales and back-to-school promotions for further drops.
