Our take on the AFFY 3CT Heart Shape Moissanite Diamond Solitaire Engagement Ring in 14K Yellow Gold over Silver-6.5

A 3-carat heart-cut moissanite solitaire from AFFY, set in prongs on 14K yellow gold over sterling silver. The stone is created moissanite graded VVS1 clarity and G-H color, so it reads near-colorless and eye-clean at a fraction of a mined diamond's cost. The band is listed as resizable and the ring is sold in size 6.5. No price was given for this listing, so compare the live price across stores before buying.

Questions and answers

Is this a real diamond?
No. The stone is created moissanite, a lab-made gemstone, though the title calls it a diamond. It is graded VVS1 clarity and G-H color and is chemically different from diamond.
Will the gold plating wear off?
14K yellow gold over silver is a plating, not solid gold. With daily wear the plating can thin on the band and prongs, and replating is a normal upkeep cost.
Can the ring be resized?
The listing says it is resizable, and the band is silver-based, so a jeweler can usually adjust it. Resizing a prong-set solitaire can cost extra and may affect the setting.
How does moissanite compare to a diamond?
Moissanite is harder than most gems but softer than diamond, and it has more fire and rainbow flash. At 3 carats it costs far less than a mined diamond of the same size.
What comes in the box?
Expect the ring only, with no written warranty per the listing. Ask the seller about a box, certificate or appraisal before buying.
When is the best time to buy?
Fine jewelry discounts cluster around Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Black Friday and December. Check the price history on this page to see whether the current price is near its low.
