Is the AFTCO Gold Series Bait Net worth it?

If you fish live bait often and care about keeping sardines and anchovies healthy, the knotless mesh and corrosion-resistant handle justify the higher price. For occasional bait fishing, a cheaper net will do.

What is the difference between the 8-inch and 10-inch hoop?

The 10-inch hoop scoops more bait per dip and is easier for livelier baits. The 8-inch hoop fits tighter into small bait wells and corners.

Which handle length should I pick?

Choose 12 inches for shallow wells and close work, 18 inches as the general-purpose middle option, and 24 inches for deep wells or reaching across a tank.

Will the knotless mesh hurt my bait?

No. The knotless woven polyester is designed to reduce scale damage and keep delicate baits like sardines and menhaden alive longer than knotted mesh.

Does the gold anodized finish rust?

The aluminum handle and hoop are anodized for corrosion resistance, so they hold up in saltwater. Rinse with fresh water after each trip to keep the finish clean.

Bait nets usually drop around spring and early summer when fishing season starts, and again in end-of-season clearance. Check the price history before buying.

Our take on the AFTCO Gold Series Bait Nets

The AFTCO Gold Series Bait Net is a live-bait scoop with a knotless woven polyester mesh, an aluminum D-shaped hoop and a gold anodized aluminum handle with a black vinyl grip. It comes in 8-inch or 10-inch hoops and 12-, 18- or 24-inch handles, so you can match it to your bait well and the size of your baits. The knotless mesh is the main selling point: it is meant to protect scales on delicate baits like sardines, anchovies and menhaden. It is a premium-priced bait net, and no current store price was available to compare against its recent range.
