Our take on the Air Vent Automatic Foundation

This is a solar-powered foundation vent for crawlspaces, sized at roughly 17 by 9.5 inches with 50 square inches of net free area per unit. It opens and closes on its own using a solar-powered actuator, so it needs no wiring and no batteries. At $25.99 at Mobile Home Outfitters as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of what automatic foundation vents typically cost, and only two stores list it new.

Questions and answers

Is this vent worth it over a manual foundation vent?
If you are tired of opening and closing crawlspace vents by hand each season, the automatic action is the main reason to pay more. Manual vents cost less but need a person on a ladder twice a year.
How much airflow does one vent provide?
Each unit gives 50 square inches of net free area. Crawlspace guidelines usually call for about 1 square foot of vent area per 150 square feet of floor space, so size the count to your crawlspace.
Does it need batteries or wiring?
No. It runs on a solar-powered actuator, so it needs sunlight on the vent face rather than a power source. Vents on a shaded wall may not open reliably.
What size opening does it fit?
The unit measures about 17 by 9.5 inches and mounts on the surface over the foundation opening. Check your existing opening against those outer dimensions before ordering.
When is the price lowest?
Foundation vents often drop in fall and winter, when crawlspace work slows. The current $25.99 at Mobile Home Outfitters as of November 4, 2026 is already low for an automatic vent.
Where is the Air Vent Automatic Foundation cheapest?
At Mobile Home Outfitters, for $25.99, as of our latest check.
