Our take on the Akfix Thermcoat Insulation & Acoustic Professional Foam 28.7 oz, 6 Cans

Akfix Thermcoat is a professional-grade closed-cell polyurethane spray foam for sealing attics, basements, crawl spaces and walls. It claims an R-value of 5.66 per inch, resists moisture, is fire-rated and can be painted once cured. It needs a compatible spray gun, not a straw nozzle. The best new price is $104.99 for 6 cans at Akfix Store as of November 4, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is no recent range to compare against.

Questions and answers

Is Akfix Thermcoat worth it over canned straw foam?
For cavities wider than a few inches, yes. Closed-cell foam at R-5.66 per inch seals and insulates far better than straw-can foam, but you need a spray gun.
What spray gun does it need?
It is designed for a compatible polyurethane spray gun with a standard can thread. Check the gun's can compatibility before ordering, since a plain straw nozzle will not work.
How much area do 6 cans cover?
Coverage depends on thickness. At 1 inch depth, expect roughly 12 board feet per 28.7 oz can, so about 72 board feet for six cans. Deeper fills cut that proportionally.
Can it be used indoors and painted?
Yes. It is intended for attics, basements, crawl spaces and walls, and it is paintable once fully cured. Ventilate during application and let it cure before painting.
When is the price lowest?
Only Akfix Store lists it new at $104.99 as of November 4, 2026, so there is no discount history to time. Compare against other closed-cell kits before buying.
